Administrative Assistant (Opening Doors Program)

Opening Doors, a LFDCS middle school preparation program, helps talented, low-income, urban students in grades 5-8 and their parent(s) learn about opportunities of a high-quality secondary education that provides students the opportunity to access admissions-based and tuition-based high schools and boarding schools. This position will assist the Opening Doors program by providing administrative and clerical support.


  • Prepare routine and confidential correspondence as directed
  • Prepare information brochures, letters, packets and other materials as assigned
  • Schedule parent and alumnus appointments with Secondary School Coordinators
  • Collect, track, and process fees
  • Assist with transporting students to interviews and visits
  • Assist with early identification of promising grade 6 students
  • Assist with planning and set-up of Parent Orientation Nights, Annual High School Fair, Workshops, Parent Panel, Lunch and Learns, and SSAT/HSPT tests
  • Schedule high school visits, financial aid meetings and parent/student scholarship meetings
  • Complete and process year-end scholarship agreements, letters to high schools and process purchase orders for current graduates and alumnus who are receiving 4-year high school scholarships
  • Assist with planning of alumni activities, process scholarship renewal applications and processing fees
  • Other duties as assigned related to the Opening Doors program


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Office Technology/Office Administration or related field preferred
  • Three years’ experience working in an office environment
  • Filing, accurate data entry, event preparation
  • Working knowledge of the GPA process
  • Working knowledge of high-school application process
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills—oral and written
  • Willingness to be a team player with a strong sense of responsibility
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Google Docs and Microsoft Office
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required

School-Year Position: 187 days      

Salary Range: Based on experience & education

Reports to: Head of Upper School
